Banned Books Week Read Out

Community members will be reading from books that have been banned in communities in the United States during ?Banned Books Week Read Out? on Saturday, September 25, from 1 ? 3 p.m. on the lawn of the Ashland Branch {1}Library, 410 Siskiyou Boulevard.

During the last week of September every year, hundreds of libraries and bookstores around the country draw attention to censorship by presenting displays of challenged books and hosting a variety of events.

?Banned Books Week,? held this year from September 25 through October 2, celebrates the freedom to read. More than a thousand books have been challenged since 1982 with targets ranging from books that explore contemporary issues and controversies to classic and beloved works of American literature.
