Bozo the Clown: The Story of Vance Colvig

Jackson County Library Services is proud to announce ?Bozo The Clown: The Story of Vance Colvig,? the next topic in the ?Windows in Time? history series offered in partnership with the Southern Oregon Historical Society. Lectures are at noon on Wednesday, May 4, at the Medford Branch Library, 205 South Central Avenue, and Wednesday, May 11, at the Ashland Branch Library, 410 Siskiyou Boulevard. 
The streets of Jacksonville Oregon at the turn of the last century teemed with a multicultural population, providing a young Vance Colvig with ample inspiration for his life as a cartoonist and his creation of the first Bozo the Clown character. Stephanie Butler will present this noontime history talk featuring excerpts from Mr. Colvig?s unpublished manuscripts, Clowns is People in which he details memories of his youth, and It?s a Crazy Business featuring his later life in Hollywood.Ms. Butler has written on southern Oregon?s local history for Southern Oregon Heritage Today, a publication of the Southern Oregon Historical Society. She is a writer and the former Education and Programs Coordinator for SOHS.The free lunchtime lecture series continues monthly on the first and second Wednesdays throughout the year from noon to 1 p.m.
