W2607C LCD TV with the same W2600 power issue
My Dell W2607C LCD TV has the same no power issue. I had it less than 3 years and have taken really good care of it.I shut it off after watching some tv to go get dinner. Two hours later I tried turning it on and I got nothing. Not even a blink of the LCD. Power LED turned blue, then blinked orange.A week ago I finally called Dell Customer service. Of course, I was on hold for nearly 20 minutes. After giving all the pertinent information regarding my Dell 26"LCD/TV, the operator (in very broken english, I might add) guided me thru all the troubleshooting steps I had done already. None of the troubleshooting worked. She tried pulling the old "contact your cable company" line, but I told her the cable is fine cause it's also plugged into a second tv. She then tried to explain that since it was out of warranty it could not be replaced. I didn't leave it at that and began to explain how Dell sold me a defective product and that I have had LCD monitors and TVs last longer than 2 years and how it was unfair for a loyal customer to be treated in this way. She then tried to send me off to another tech support service, but the only difference is that they were gonna charge me. I said 'No' and then asked for her supervisor. He tried to give the same line about 'out of warranty' and I told him that this is not an uncommon problem and that if he googled 'Dell 26" TV not powering up', he'd see that there are a lot of consumers out there with the same problem as me.He then said, "Oh but the problem you speak of is with the 2600 series model not yours, yours is the 2607C." I replied, without hesitation, "But it is still part of the same series, is it not? And it looks like the same problem was overlooked when they made the one I bought."I was told someone of a 'higher authority' would contact me but their calls have been rather erratic and I cannot return their calls only leave voicemails. I do get emails saying how they just tried calling and when they say that they would call between a certain time the next, I end up wasting time waiting for a call that never comes. As a last resort, I am posting on here in hopes that I will get response and not have to deal with scripted customer service.I have ordered from Dell recently, out of good faith. If I'm stuck with a very expensive paperweight, I might as well returned my recent purchases and cut off all ties with Dell completely.cell phones ref

Von Trier 'non grata' at Cannes
Von Trier attended the premiere with stars Gainsbourg (l) and Dunst (r) Related Stories Danish director Lars Von Trier has apologised for saying he was a Nazi and that Israel was "a pain" during a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival. "I am not anti-Semitic or racially prejudiced in any way, nor am I a Nazi," he said in a statement. The apology came ahead of the premiere of his new film Melancholia, screening in competition at this year's event. In an interview, its star Kirsten Dunst admitted Von Trier had "run his mouth" and had "dug himself in a deep hole". Von Trier's off-colour remarks, purportedly made in jest, were the talk of the festival on Wednesday and prompted an official rebuke from organisers. The director drew censure for suggesting that he "sympathised" with Adolf Hitler and for saying that while he was "not against Jews... Israel is a pain in the ass". The festival posted its own statement on its website, saying it had been "disturbed" by the 55-year-old's comments and had asked him to "provide an explanation". "The director states that he let himself be egged on by a provocation," the statement reads. "The direction of the festival acknowledges this and is passing on Lars Von Trier's apology. "The festival is adamant that it would never allow the event to become the forum for such pronouncements on such subjects." Von Trier and his stars were all smiles as they took to the red carpet on Wednesday at the official screening of Melancholia. It followed a press conference Dunst (r) was heard to call "intense" The mood was very different earlier, however, when the director's remarks were met by awkward, stony silences. Spider-Man actress Dunst was heard to describe the occasion as "intense" as she left the podium. A family drama that takes place in the shadow of an imminent apocalypse, Melancholia also stars the French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg and Britain's John Hurt. Some pundits have suggested the row might damage its chances of winning the Palme d'Or - an award its director received in 2000 for his musical Dancer in the Dark. Von Trier was last at Cannes in 2009 with Antichrist, a dark drama featuring graphic scenes of sex and violence which provoked a furore at that year's event. The director is well known for his impish humour, his fear of flying and his often combative relationship with members of the press. The festival continues on Thursday with the premiere of The Skin I Live In, the latest film from Spanish director Pedro Almodovar. British actor Malcolm McDowell is also in town to attend a special screening of A Clockwork Orange, the 1971 film he made with the late Stanley Kubrick. This article is from the BBC News website. British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.

'Bridesmaids': The Reviews Are In!
Critics overwhelmingly praise film's boundary-free humor.By Eric Ditzian
The cast of "Bridesmaids"
Photo: Universal Pictures
Call it a Judd Apatow-for-chicks comedy or his laugh factory's finest effort since 2007's "Knocked Up" — and many critics have done both — but the bottom line is people have been loving "Bridesmaids" in early screenings.
Produced by Apatow, directed by Paul Feig and starring "Saturday Night Live" star Kristen Wiig, "Bridesmaids" opened Friday (May 13), and while it won't duel with "Thor" for the top box-office spot, it does have the distinction of being one of the most critically adored major releases of the year (currently 91 percent fresh on the Rotten Tomatoes review aggregator). Critics have lauded the film's consistent laughs, Wiig for her breakout big-screen turn and the cast of uproarious supporting players. Read on for those critiques and more in our "Bridesmaids" review roundup:
The Story
"Wiig stars as Annie, the increasingly unhinged maid of honor for her best friend Lillian's (Maya Rudolph) upcoming up-market wedding. They are surrounded by an ensemble of witty twisted sisters who come in all shapes and sizes (both the wit and the sisters, the unrelated kind, just 'doin' it for themselves'), and a director in Paul Feig, who displays a lot of comedic common sense. This creative collective includes most notably Rose Byrne ('Damages') and Melissa McCarthy ('Mike & Molly'), with Wendi McLendon-Covey ('Reno 911!') and Ellie Kemper ('The Office') as the other merry maids. They all work hard to wring the most nonsense out of the clever script. ... The story swings between Annie's everyday struggles and a string of increasingly outrageous wedding plan fiascos [but] what distinguishes the film is the way in which the women relate and the raunch is handled." — Betsy Sharkey, The Los Angeles Times
The Laughs
"The scenes of outlandish slapstick humor in 'Bridesmaids' will surely be the ones viewers are talking about well into the multiplex parking lot: the disgusting aftermath of a spicy lunch in a boutique bathroom, culminating with a tulle-encased Rudolph performing a curb-side act worthy of John Waters at his most appalling; Wiig, hopped up on anti-anxiety meds and booze, running amok on a plane bound for Las Vegas. ... As viscerally funny as these moments are — and as expertly staged by comedy veteran Paul Feig ('Freaks and Geeks,' 'Knocked Up') — it's the smaller, more observant moments in 'Bridesmaids' that make it worth savoring." — Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post
The Apatow Effect
"It shows some of Apatow's influence. (He ended up producing.) It's a little long, and has the look — with some scenes ending abruptly, or subplots suddenly dropped — of having been re-thought in editing. It's also grosser than it needs to be, with a lot of bathroom 'humor.' There are touches of road-trip movies such as 'The Hangover' here, too, with the promise of a girls-gone-wild bachelorette party. But while 'Bridesmaids' doesn't generate those sort of belly laughs, it does deliver stronger, richer characters." — Stephen Whitty, Newark Star-Ledger
The Dissenters
"Obviously intended as a femme version of a rude and crude boys-gone-wild comedy, complete with projectile vomiting, inconvenient defecation and fusillades of F-bombs, 'Bridesmaids' sorely lacks the saving grace of being consistently funny. ... 'Bridesmaids' is a sluggish, charmless misfire in which even the most appealing players — including Chris O'Dowd as an Irish-accented cop who inexplicably falls for Annie — must try too hard to make anything close to an engaging impression." — Joe Leydon, Variety
The Final Word
"If this is only a chick flick, then call me a chick. Witty, raunchy and affecting, 'Bridesmaids' crosses boundaries by blithely ignoring them. At one moment it's a broad-gauge farce that examines sex from a woman's point of view. (The findings are mixed at best.) At another it's a sophisticated comedy of manners, and class, that pits two bridesmaids against each other for control of the wedding, if not the bride's destiny. Through it all — the free-form conversations, the brilliant set pieces, the preposterous gross-outs, the flawless performances — Kristen Wiig's forlorn maid of honor, Annie, seeks her own destiny with a wrenchingly cockeyed passion." — Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal

Cali Swag District Respond To M-Bone's Death
'We're just gonna leave it up to the law right now because there's really nothing we can do,' C-Smoove says in video posted by TMZ.By Rob Markman

With the hip-hop community mourning the death of Mante "M-Bone" Talbert, TMZ caught up with his Cali Swag bandmates C-Smoove and JayAre and got their reaction to the 22-year old dancer's demise.
The first order of business for C-Smoove was to clear up any misconceptions surrounding the events of Sunday, May 15. TMZ has previously reported that M-Bone's death may have come at the hands of a "jealous man" who was envious of the group's success.
"I wanna clear up: It had nothing to do with gang violence, it wasn't nothing like that. It was just a 'wrong place at the wrong time' situation. We just gotta stay strong for the homey," C-Smoove says in the video posted on the gossip site. "We don't know who's responsible for it or what the case may be. It's just bad, man. We're just gonna leave it up to the law right now because there's really nothing we can do."
It's unclear whether any members of CSD actually witnessed the murder, but C-Smoove goes on to describe the drive-by shooting which ultimately claimed M-Bone's life. "He went to the store to get something to drink and, randomly, somebody pulls up, don't say no words, don't shoot a lot of shots, just did what they had to do and got on. It had to be something, but we really can't tell exactly what it was."
In the next portion of the clip, Smoove breaks down in tears. After the unseen interviewer asks the two rappers what they would say to M-Bone's family, Smoove begins to cry. "We are his family," he says, his voice cracking.
JayAre goes on to detail the group's special bond with M-Bone. "We was the closest thing Mante had [to family]. He was always on his own and when we started Cali Swag, we tried to do a family," he explained. "He was a brother to me. He meant a lot. I don't even feel the same without him."
The Inglewood Police Department is asking anyone with information to come forward and call its homicide division at (310) 412-5246 or its 24-hour anonymous hotline number, (888) 41 CRIME, or (888) 412-7463.

Reporter detained in Syria free
Ms Parvaz is now safe and well in Doha, al-Jazeera says Related Stories An al-Jazeera journalist detained in Syria on 29 April has been released and is safe and well in the Gulf state of Qatar, her employers say. It is not clear where Dorothy Parvaz was when she was freed. Al-Jazeera said it had information Ms Parvaz had been deported to Iran from Syria. She holds Iranian, Canadian and US passports. Iran said she had tried to enter Syria on an expired Iranian passport. Iran does not recognise dual nationalities. Last week, the Qatar-based network said it had been told by Syrian officials that Ms Parvaz would be released. An Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson also told reporters in Tehran that Ms Parvaz "did not have a work permit". Ramin Mehmanparast said she had attempted "to enter a country on two illegal counts". However, the Iranian authorities were refusing to confirm her whereabouts. Ms Parvaz, 39, joined al-Jazeera's English-language TV service last year. She was attempting to enter Syria to report on the unrest there when she was detained last month. Iran and Syria have close ties. Syria has banned foreign journalists from entering the country during its crackdown on anti-government protests. The US state department has accused Iran of providing support to Syria in President Bashar al-Assad's attempts to deal with widespread protests. Driving Your Feedback into our Product Development Cycles
As Dell’s Customer Loyalty Program Manager for Enterprise Solutions Group, I analyze data and verbatims (from our quarterly customer loyalty and product satisfaction surveys), determine trends around high areas of dissatisfaction, engage with our customers to better understand their issues, and drive any actionable feedback into our product development cycles.
I’ve been managing this program for six months, and one of the challenges I’ve found is trying to develop and maintain relevant dialogue with our customers. So I decided to start publishing a regular column (how regular depends on how interesting you all find it) on areas identified as high dissat by our customers or initiatives high on our radar because of other customer inputs.
I will share actual feedback or customer complaints we’ve received on our Server, Storage, and Networking products, what we’re doing to address those issues, and the impact we hope the improvements will make. Following are some of the topics I want to cover:
Energy Efficiency
Acoustics
Systems Management Tools
Quality & Reliability Definition
Ease of Use
Security
Error Messaging
12G Improvements
Product Awareness
Notification of Updates
Data Unavailability
The strength I bring to this role is around my desire to learn more about our customers’ needs (what they’re trying to accomplish with our products) and my passion to improve our customers’ experience (what’s preventing them from those accomplishments). Plus, I’ve been at Dell for a little more than seven years – in both manager and individual contri butor roles, so I know a lot of people in different functional areas and I know how to drive to get things done.
My plan is to work with subject matter experts from the various functional areas to get the specific answers you want. And my goal is to connect with you, hear what you have to say, share it with our teams, push it our leadership, and drive real change if it’s meaningful.
So talk to me! Let me know if you’re interested in this concept. Give me details on your satisfaction with our products. And tell me which topics you want to talk about!cell phone spy for you more about cell phone spy.... cell phone spy software

Angelina Jolie Confirms Talks With David Fincher To Direct 'Cleopatra'
'Fincher's been an old friend, so we've always been looking for something to do,' she tells MTV News.By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz
Angelina Jolie
Photo: MTV News
Last time we caught up with Angelina Jolie, we ran through a slew of potential projects for the A-list star, pumping for details about her rumored onscreen collaboration with beau Brad Pitt, a potential project with Darren Aronofsky and the possibility (now squashed, thanks to Anne Hathaway) of playing Catwoman in "The Dark Knight Rises."
Meeting back up with Jolie at the Cannes Film Festival this week while she was promoting "Kung Fu Panda 2," we again touched on a few of her upcoming projects. First, there's "Cleopatra," a 3-D retelling of the ancient Egyptian queen's life. For a while, it seemed James Cameron might take on directorial duties, and then Paul Greengrass' name entered the conversation. Then in March, David Fincher — who's been consumed with production in Sweden on an adaptation of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" — reportedly became the latest helmer to set his sights on the film.
So will Jolie and Fincher be teaming up for "Cleopatra"? It seems that way. "Yes, we just don't know," she told us, "It's all very early. Fincher's been an old friend, so we've always been looking for something to do."
From there, we hit on another cinematic retelling of historical figures, this one focusing on the political and personal relationship between Winston Churchill and Theodore Roosevelt. Earlier this month, Anthony Hopkins exclusively revealed to MTV News that he was looking to play Churchill for a project Jolie is producing. But after directing her first feature — a love story set during the Bosnian War — we wondered if she might also helm that project.
"Right now, I'm just producing it," Jolie said. "Just want to see it get done."
When asked if she'd found a Roosevelt to go head-to-head with Hopkins' Churchill, she answered simply, "No."

'Priest' Stars All Agree On Favorite Action Scene
'What happens on the train is pretty extraordinary,' movie's star Paul Bettany says.By Kara Warner
Paul Bettany in "Priest"
Photo: Sony Pictures
Although it didn't have quite enough oomph to top R-rated romp "Bridesmaids" at the box office, the unique thriller "Priest" has plenty to offer filmgoers via its high-caliber stars Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, and Lily Collins, its "satisfying mash-up" of genres, and, the key ingredient to any popcorn flick, plenty of action.
When MTV News caught up with the cast recently, we asked them to pick their favorite action scene in the film, which was directed by Scott Stewart and revolves around a specially trained warrior priest (Bettany) who must fight vampires in order to save his kidnapped niece (Collins). Coincidentally enough, they all agreed on a favorite: the climactic battle scene, which takes place on top of, inside and in front of a speeding train.
"There so many," Maggie Q said. "I guess the train sequence, where everybody is kind of into it, is pretty great," she said. "They're on the train, and then she [Maggie's character] is on the bike. I thought the editing was genius."
"What happens on the train is pretty extraordinary," Bettany added. The action intercut with Cam [Gigandet] inside the train, with Karl [Urban] and I on top of the train, having this battle royale, and with Maggie further down the track trying to blow the track up, and fighting with all the familiars, on motorbikes and stuff. ... [It's] pretty great."
"I thought it was really cool when Paul [Bettany] and Karl [Urban] are on top of the train," Collins said of the pivotal scene. "I remember the day they shot that, and it looks epic from far away," she said. "I remember how hard it was to choreograph that. It was like a dance on wires. It looks really, really cool. I feel like my stunt scenes are cool too, but visually I think that one looked really awesome."
"I have to go with Maggie's [action sequence]," Gigandet added. "In the very end with the thingamajig [a knife blade/Chinese star-type weapon that she swings around her head], that's pretty rock star-ish. She does it with this simplistic grace."
"Yeah she just does it, and she's [so] calm about it," Collins added.
Check out everything we've got on "Priest."

Exploding watermelons perplex Chinese farmers
Some farmers admitted using chemicals to boost the growth of their watermelons Farmers in eastern China has have been left perplexed after their watermelon crops began to explode one by one. An investigation by state media found farms in Jiangsu province were losing acres of fruit because of the problem. The overuse of a chemical that helps fruit grow faster was blamed in one report by China Central Television. But agriculture experts were unable to explain why chemical-free melons were exploding. They cited the weather and abnormal size of the melon as factors. China Central Television said farmers were overspraying their crops with the growth promoter, hoping they could get their fruit to market ahead of the peak season and increase their profits.According to the Xinhua news agency, 20 farmers in a village in Jiangsu province planted imported seeds from Japan, with 10 households saying their watermelons began exploding last month. Farmer Liu Mingsuo told Xinhua that more than two-thirds of his crop had blown up. He said he had used chemicals to boost their growth on 6 May, and the following day more than 180 melons exploded. Mr Liu was reported to be the only farmer from the 10 households who used chemicals. Wang Dehong, who has been farming watermelons for 20 years, couldn't understand why his fruit also exploded as he had not use any chemicals. Agricultural experts investigating the incident were unable to offer an explanation. China has approved the usage of the growth chemical under certain quotas. So far, tests show the chemical is safe, Xinhua reported. However, as the public is increasingly concerned about food safety, experts say a quality tracking system should be introduced, detailing every stage along the food chain, to inform the public fully, and ensure food safety. Kings Of Leon Frontman Caleb Followill Marries Lily Aldridge
Couple are planning a 'big party' to follow family-only ceremony.By Kara Warner

Photo: Getty Images
It wasn't the heavily hyped, hours-long event that was the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, but on Thursday, a King married his queen.
Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill married Victoria's Secret model Lily Aldridge early Thursday evening at an intimate ceremony held at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California. According to People magazine, the couple exchanged vows before an audience of only family members at 5:30 p.m. but have plans to celebrate their nuptials by way of a "big party" at a later date.
"It was a perfect day," Followill said of the event.
Followill, 29, met Aldridge, 25, when she appeared in the band's video for "Use Somebody." The couple had been together for more than two years when Followill popped the question last September.
The magazine also reported that the bride wore a custom-made strapless Vera Wang gown with layers of chantilly and corded lace appliqué and raw-edge swirling chiffon detail at the back. The groom wore a Gucci suit. Followill's brother and bandmate Nathan, who married singer Jessie Baylin in 2009, served as best man.
For the ladies keeping score at home, there are still two eligible Kings on the market: Jared Followill (Caleb and Nathan's brother) and Matthew Followill (their cousin).
It's been another busy year for the Kings, following the release of their album Come Around Sundown and rock documentary "Talihina Sky." According to their website, they head back on tour at the end of the month for a two-month sweep through Europe and return Stateside in July.

Haiti to swear in new president
Michel Martelly has pledged a break with Haiti's violent past Related Stories Haitian pop star Michel Martelly is due to be sworn in as president of the poorest country in the Americas. Mr Martelly, 50, has pledged to speed up earthquake reconstruction, develop the impoverished countryside and build a modern army. The political novice was elected president in March in a run-off poll after a first round marred by fraud. Hundreds of thousands of Haitians still live in tent cities after the devastating January 2010 earthquake. Mr Martelly, known to Haitians as Sweet Micky, is due to be inaugurated in front of Haiti's badly-damaged National Palace. In what is being seen as an attempt to reconcile the country's divisive politics, he has invited former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide and former dictator Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier. It is not clear if they will attend. Former US President Bill Clinton is expected to be present. He is co-chair of Haiti Reconstruction Commission, which controls billions of dollars in aid pledged to rebuild earthquake damage. In addition to the challenge of rebuilding the quake-shattered capital, Port-au-Prince, Haiti faces a cholera epidemic, an economy in ruins and the legacy of a violent past. This article is from the BBC News website. British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.

Go Inside '30 Minutes Or Less' With Jesse Eisenberg And Danny McBride
Nick Swardson tells MTV News his and McBride's schemers are 'simple dudes.'By Eric Ditzian
Aziz Ansari and Jesse Eisenberg on the set of "30 Minutes or Less"
Photo: MTV News
Late last August, I fled the humid concrete confines of Times Square and arrived in the dusty heat of a junkyard in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Next to a giant tangle of rusted-out cars, Danny McBride and Nick Swardson were busy blowing up watermelons and shouting expletives far too dirty to reprint.
It was a strange and hilarious sight to behold, but it all made sense: I was on the set of "30 Minutes or Less," and what I was witnessing was the unlikely glamour of major studio moviemaking. McBride and Swardson play low-life criminals with a simple plan: strap a bomb to a pizza delivery boy and force him to rob a bank in less than nine hours, lest the kid become an unwitting suicide bomber.
"They're kind of simple dudes. They're not very learned," Swardson said during a break in the action. "But they're not robots. At the core, they are actually very nice people."
Added McBride, "They just want to be loved, whether it takes a bomb or a bank robbery to get there."
What happens after they hatch their scheme, test their explosives on watermelons and then strap them to Jesse Eisenberg's pizza boy forms the bulk of the action and the comedy in "30 Minutes," which hits theaters on August 12. With Eisenberg in trouble, he enlists the help of his best friend (played by Aziz Ansari), even though they've had an earlier falling-out resulting from Eisenberg's sexual conquest with his friend's sister. But there's nothing like a life-threatening situation to bring two pals together.
On set, both guys were having a blast. During some downtime, Ansari cracked that he and Eisenberg were making plans to reboot the "Fast and Furious" franchise and take over the roles of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Eisenberg, for his part, was having a blast being a madman behind the wheel during stunt-driving exercises.
"I live in New York City and ride a bicycle, so I never drive ever, so I've been given the opportunity and a cool car," he said with a sly smile. "Every time I drive, I get yelled at by the crew, but the stunt drivers always wink at me and say, 'Nah, that was good, man. Keep doing it.' I've been subtly and subversively encouraged to be very dangerous in the car."

Cancer Testing? There's an App for That
Many people already use their smartphones as far more than mere telephones--as gadgets for Web surfing, e-mailing or listening to music. Some scientists are now turning them into handheld tools to diagnose cancer or infectious disease, track treatment progress or check water safety. Given that the handsets are so common, they could bring cutting-edge health care technology to the developing world.Diagnosing cancer is a challenge because it requires expensive, time-consuming assays. But in a recent study published in Science Translational Medicine , Ralph Weissleder and his colleagues at Harvard Medical School used a cell phone and a lunch box–size machine to diagnose cancer from tiny pieces of tissue, taken via needle from the abdomens of patients with suspected metastatic cancers. Researchers mixed the samples with antibodies that bound to four known cancer-related proteins. The machine analyzed the samples using nuclear magnetic resonance--measuring levels of the antibody-bound proteins based on their magnetic properties. It then sent the results to the smartphone, which, using an app that the researchers designed, displayed the data. Because doctors don’t need a laptop or desktop, it would be easier for them to assess patients outside the clinic. In comparison, results from more traditional diagnostic methods are typically not available for three days and require more invasive tissue sampling. [More]

Lady Gaga Performs New Version Of 'You And I' On 'Oprah'
Gaga played a 'high-heel' piano on Thursday's episode to delight of fellow guest Johnny Depp.By Jocelyn Vena

Leave it to Lady Gaga to say good-bye to Oprah Winfrey in the most over-the-top possible way. Gaga appeared on Thursday's episode (May 5) of Winfrey's show (which also featured Johnny Depp) and put on nothing less than a spectacle.
Sitting atop a very high stool, Gaga — in a red leather blazer, floppy mask-like hat and see-through leopard bodysuit — played a piano made out of a wire high-heel structure. She began with an acoustic, piano-driven version of "Born This Way," and then removed the hat as a synth kicked in for a less organic version of "You and I."
This version was more amped up than the one she usually plays in concert, complete with electric guitar and Oprah shout-outs. "We got a whole lot of money, but still pay rent/ 'Cause you can't buy a house in Heaven/ There's only three men I served my whole life/ It's my dad and Nebraska and Jesus Christ," she sang, debuting some new "You and I" lyrics.
The performance seemed to please Depp, who was sitting next to Oprah clapping as Gaga performed. After she was done, she got off the stool and shared, "We designed the outfit, but my sister, who's 19 years old, she's a fashion student and she created this structure of a high heel and I made it into a piano, so surprise!"
Gaga later tweeted about the latest version of "You And I," saying that it would be included on Born This Way, set to drop on May 23. "I performed on OPRAH today the album Version of Yoü and I," she wrote. "Also performed by Haley on AmericanIdol last night!"
What did you think of Gaga's "Oprah" performance? Tell us in the comments!

Stars sit out US Republican debate
Tim Pawlenty is seen as the most credible candidate in Thursday's debate Related Stories The first debate on the road to the Republican 2012 presidential nomination is being held with most major potential candidates absent from the stage. In South Carolina on Thursday, five men were expected to debate the US economy, the budget and healthcare, and to take shots at President Barack Obama. But only ex-Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty is seen as a credible candidate for the Republicans in 2012. While Mr Obama is seen as vulnerable, the field is slow to take shape. The debate - hosted by the South Carolina Republican Party and broadcast on Fox News - includes Mr Pawlenty, former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, Congressman Ron Paul and former pizza restaurant magnate Herman Cain.A string of well-known potential contenders are sitting out the debate. They include former Alaska Governor and 2008 vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. Newt Gingrich, the former speaker of the House of Representatives, is also not attending, and none of Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, real estate magnate and reality television star Donald Trump and former Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman will take to the stage. Herman Cain is the former chief executive of Godfather's Pizza Mr Obama's poll numbers indicate he is vulnerable, due in large part to the poor state of the US economy. But a host of factors have left leading Republicans shy of jumping into the campaign, analysts say. They include the uncertain role of the populist Tea Party, the consolidation of power among hard-right conservative Republicans and the perceived weakness of would-be front-runner Mr Romney. Mr Obama's fund-raising prowess is also seen as a factor dissuading potential opponents. By contrast, in May 2007 - when both Republican and Democratic nominations were open - a South Carolina Republican debate included two sitting senators, four former governors, three US congressmen, and a former New York City mayor. The first balloting of the 2012 primary campaign will be the Iowa caucus on 6 February 2012. Meanwhile, the Associated Press, America's most wide-reaching news agency, has said it is boycotting Thursday's debate to protest against the Fox News channel's restrictions on coverage by its photographers. This article is from the BBC News website. British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.

Obama to meet Bin Laden kill team
Mr Obama is expected to meet members of the raid team privately US President Barack Obama is to visit Fort Campbell in Kentucky to meet and thank members of the special forces team that killed Osama Bin Laden at his compound in Pakistan five days ago. Mr Obama is expected to express his gratitude to the raid team privately. The news comes a day after the president visited New York City to lay a wreath at Ground Zero. Meanwhile, documents found at Osama Bin Laden's compound suggest al-Qaeda was planning further attacks on the US. Officials are examining computers, DVDs, hard-drives and documents seized from the Abbottabad home where Bin Laden may have hid for up to six years. One planned attack targeted a US rail route, US officials revealed, although no imminent threat was detected.President Obama is scheduled to arrive at the Fort Campbell military base on Friday afternoon. The president "will have the opportunity to privately thank some of the special operators involved in the operation," a White House official said. Mr Obama, who will be joined by Vice President Joe Biden, will also address soldiers who have returned from Afghanistan during his trip to the base. He is also scheduled to make a stop in the state of Indianapolis on Friday to promote his energy policies and showcase a transmission plant that produces systems for hybrid cars. During his trip to lay a wreath at the site of the World Trade Center on Thursday, the president also met with firefighters and police officers who responded to the 9/11 attacks. "When we say we will never forget, we mean what we say," the president told firefighters. He did not mentioned Bin Laden by name publicly during his trip on Thursday, and political analysts have said the White House is being cautious about overplaying its hand regarding the operation in Pakistan. The president has received some criticism in the past several days for not releasing photographs of Bin Laden's corpse, but his opinion poll ratings have risen in the wake of his decision to authorise the raid.Meanwhile, al-Qaeda has confirmed the death of its leader Osama Bin Laden, according to a statement attributed to the group and posted on jihadist internet forums. The statement said his blood would not be "wasted" and that al-Qaeda would continue attacking the US and allies. Bin Laden, the now former leader of al-Qaeda, was shot dead on Monday when US commandos stormed his compound in the Pakistani town of Abbottabad. American officials say the CIA had been secretly watching for months the house in Pakistan where Bin Laden was killed. From a safe house in Abbottabad, a surveillance team used telephoto lenses and sensitive eavesdropping equipment, US reports said. This article is from the BBC News website. British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.

Beyonce Releases New 'Run The World (Girls)' Video Teaser
Models are dystopian-chic in new preview.By Jocelyn Vena
A scene from the "Run the World (Girls)" trailer
Photo: Columbia
Beyoncé is teasing fans with a 20-second sneak peek of the video for "Run the World (Girls)," the lead single from her forthcoming album, set for release this year.
B is nowhere to be seen in the tease, but the clip certainly gives fans a taste of the video's sexiness. Leggy ladies, from all walks of life, mug for the camera as they hang out in the desert. They saunter, prance, hang out on bikes and look generally over everything, all while being totally hot. The fashions are mostly funky chic: lots of black, lots of fur and lots of hot pants.
A previous glimpse into the post-apocalyptic video showed the remains of what once was (a rusty car, a newspaper) before Beyoncé appears in all her glory, decked out in white and riding a horse.
Fans can also piece together some parts of the video thanks to leaked photos. B had been seen sporting white Givenchy couture in mid-April and then she looked both fierce and regal waving a "B" flag for anther setup, where she seemed to be commanding some sort of army.
Director Francis Lawrence didn't reveal too much to us when MTV News talked to him a few weeks back, but he did give some details about what fans should expect from the video, which was shot last month in California.
"It'll be big, it'll probably be one of the bigger Beyoncé music videos ever done," he said. "And, I can say that I think the song is unbelievable." He added, "I think the video's gonna be really fun and cool and different for her."

Portugal reaches deal on bail-out
Mr Socrates resigned after failing to get austerity measures through parliament Portugal's caretaker prime minister Jose Socrates has announced that he has reached agreement on a bail-out from the EU and the International Monetary Fund. He said the three-year loan was a "good agreement". No figure was given for the value of the loan, although it is reported to be about 78bn euros ($116bn; £70bn). Officials from the European Commission, European Central Bank and IMF have been working on a deal for three weeks. In a televised statement, Mr Socrates said that Portugal would be given more time to reach its budget deficit targets than had previously been expected. Mr Socrates resigned as prime minister after failing to get austerity measures through parliament. There will be a general election on 5 June. The deal has to be endorsed by the main opposition parties. Portugal was the third eurozone country to have to ask for a bail-out, after Greece and Ireland. This article is from the BBC News website. British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.

Stephenie Meyer's 'The Host' Casts Saoirse Ronan
'Hanna' star set to play Melanie Stryder and the alien who invades her mind.By Kara Warner

Photo: MTV News
For the die-hard Stephenie Meyer fans out there worried about going into withdrawal after "Breaking Dawn: Part 2" descends upon theaters in November 2012, fear not. The movie adaptation of author's other best-seller, "The Host," has found a star in Saoirse Ronan.
According to Deadline, the film, which was written by Andrew Niccol for independent production company Inferno, will reportedly be looking to find a distributor at the Cannes International Film Festival next week.
Meyer is said to have been heavily involved in the process, and selected writer/director Niccol because she was a fan of his films "Gattaca" and his script for "The Truman Show."
"The Host" is the story of Melanie Stryder, one of the last humans to have avoided capture by an alien race called Souls. The Souls operate more like parasites in that they invade human bodies, fuse to each person's consciousness and erase their personalities. Melanie is eventually implanted by a Soul called Wanderer. Somehow, however, Melanie avoids surrendering her consciousness to Wanderer, who is so overwhelmed by her host's memories and feelings, the alien is driven to reconnect with Melanie's old life. As the two share Melanie's body, they find an underground colony of humans hiding from the Souls.
The 17-year-old Ronan, known for her noteworthy performances in films like "Atonement," "The Lovely Bones" and most recently, "Hanna," will reportedly play both Melanie and Wanderer.
Meyer will be attending the festival to help present the project to prospective buyers.

Green light
The traditional method of preparing absinthe: pour iced water over a sugar cube until it dissolves into a glass of absinthe underneath Related Stories Green, incredibly alcoholic and some say mind-altering - these are the qualities that led to absinthe being banned in France almost 100 years ago. But all that's about to change, after the government voted to allow sales of the drink nicknamed the 'green fairy'. "I will not be seen as a drug addict anymore," says Clement Arnoux, an absinthe drinker and enthusiast. "It changes everything from the point of view of my friends and family," he said. The green, anise-flavoured spirit is associated with many of the country's most famous and esteemed artists and writers - like Edouard Manet, Edgar Degas, Henri de Toulouse Lautrec and Paul Verlaine - but it was banned in France in 1915 for its alleged harmful effect. Absinthe facts First distilled in Val-de-Travers in Switzerland at end of 18th CenturyName comes from its special ingredient Artemisia absinthium, commonly known as grande wormwood, which contains thujoneMedicinal use of wormwood dates back to ancient EgyptAt height of popularity, there were more than 1,000 distilleries of absinthe in FranceWas given to French soldiers in Algeria in 1840s as was believed to prevent malariaIn the 19th Century the city with the biggest consumption, after Paris, was New Orleans in the USThe French drink pastis started to be made after the absinthe ban came in. It has a similar anise flavourThe US banned absinthe in 1912 - eight years before prohibition came in; it lifted the ban in 2007 Absinthe is distilled with the leaves of the herb Artemisia absinthium, known as grande wormwood, which contains the drink's "special ingredient", thujone, which reputedly has mind-altering effects. Later, the rule was relaxed, allowing the drink to be sold as long as it was not called absinthe, and instead labelled "a spirit made from extracts of the absinthe plant". Now the ban is expected to be lifted entirely any day now, after the French Senate voted in favour of the move in mid-April. While drinkers like Clement Arnoux are relieved that the stigma of illegality has gone, not everyone sees the change of law as cause for celebration. Absinthe is usually around 60 or 70% alcohol, though it is not designed to be drunk neat, but mixed instead with water, much like pastis. For some, the drink's high proof is part of its appeal. Young people are "always looking for something more", says Laurent Legay, who works with people with drink problems in the Pas de Calais region. "I've had young people in secondary school who have told me that they are on the hunt for absinthe because it's a strong alcohol," he adds.Absinthe was made legal in the rest of the European Union in 1988, provided the amount of thujone falls within the agreed limit of 10mg/kg, or 35mg/kg for absinthe bitters. “When you ask anyone, 'what is absinthe?' they reply 'it makes you mad'”Marie-Claude Delahaye Director of the Museum of Absinthe In France, a decree was passed allowing absinthe to be sold but only if it was not actually called absinthe. "It was a bizarre situation," says George Rowley, Managing Director of La Fee Absinthe, who - though British - was one of the key people behind the resumption of absinthe production in France. "You could distil absinthe in France, bottle it, label it for the rest of the world as absinthe, but you couldn't do that for France. "It was ridiculous; it was a redundant law that needed to be swept away," he said. Absinthe's heyday was in the mid-to-late 1800s. Pablo Picasso painted absinthe drinkers "Absinthe was the queen of the Parisian boulevards," says Marie-Claude Delahaye, director and founder of the Museum of Absinthe in Auvers-sur-Oise. Artists would hang out in the Parisian cafes to escape the chill of their studios, and a whole social scene developed around the drink, which was nicknamed la fee verte, meaning the green fairy. Absinthe conveniently filled a gap left by the wine industry, which had been decimated in previous years by the vine disease phylloxera - but it also had its own attractions. "It was cheap, it was an industrial alcohol, and it was very easy to buy," says Jad Adams, author of Hideous Absinthe: History of the Devil in a Bottle. "It was the drink of the poor, and if you were a poor artist, like Vincent Van Gogh, you were going to take the cheapest kind of alcohol you could." By the late 19th Century, France - like other countries in the Europe - was in the grip of a serious alcoholism problem, and this prompted a backlash, the repercussions of which have lasted to this day. "For the French, it's clear," says Marie-Claude Delahaye. "When you ask anyone, 'what is absinthe?' they reply 'it makes you mad'. "The anti-alcohol lobbies really rammed home the message that absinthe makes you crazy and a criminal," she says. Famous absinthe quotesOscar Wilde After the first glass you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally you see things as they really are, and that is the most horrible thing in the world Paul Verlaine For me my glory is an Humble ephemeral Absinthe Drunk on the sly, with fear of treason and if I drink it no longer, it is for a good reason Johnny Depp I hated cocaine, but I used to like absinthe which is like marijuana; drink too much and you suddenly realise why Van Gogh cut off his ear "So that has stayed within the collective memory; people are afraid of absinthe." The widely held view that absinthe is mind-altering or hallucinogenic has been "greatly exaggerated", according to Ted Breaux, a research scientist and commercial distiller in France who has spent 17 years researching the liquor. He notes, however, that some drinkers report a "sensation of mental clarity" before the alcohol kicks in. One big question, though, is whether the absinthe available now is the same as that drunk by the big names in the 19th Century - and that is contested. Absinthe producers insist they are carefully following original recipes and the drink is exactly the same - they even cite papers printed in scientific journals. Others argue that the few remaining pre-ban bottles will have degraded so much over time that they are now impossible to assess. There was no regulation of absinthe in the days of Van Gogh, meaning there was probably "significantly more thujone" than would be allowed under modern-day EU rules, according to Jad Adams.Absinthe was first made, not in France, but just across the border in the Val-de-Travers region of Switzerland. “For us to be the last to authorise it, is not just ironic, it's almost insane! ”Clement Arnoux French absinthe drinker And a Swiss judge recently approved a request to give the region exclusive rights to produce it. For the moment, this ruling applies only in Switzerland, which is not a member of the European Union - and so has limited impact. But because of Switzerland's close ties with the EU, it is possible that the Swiss could seek to extend the ruling across the block. Producers say that this is what has galvanised the French government to lift the ban now. France would be the biggest loser if such a ruling were to be extended, but with the drink still technically illegal at home, it would have found it virtually impossible to contest. Absinthe drinker Clement Arnoux hopes that many more bars and shops will start to sell absinthe now. But most of all, he wants France to reclaim what he sees as part of its heritage. "We have forgotten that for half a century, absinthe was the national spirit in France, not wine. "So for us to be the last to authorise it, is not just ironic, it's almost insane! "We have forgotten almost everything about it, and are re-learning it from foreigners," he laments. "That part is sad."
