Fly Fishing and Tying in the Upper Rogue

Learn how to fly fish and tie a fly from an expert on Wednesday, February 16, from 6 ? 7 p.m., at the Shady Cove Branch Library Community Meeting Room, 22477 Highway 62.{1}

Shady Cove resident Joe Holzen has been fly fishing throughout Northern California, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and British Columbia. Mr. Holzen taught fly tying for eight years at the Shady Cove Middle School and has given several clinics on rod-wrapping and fishing the lakes and streams throughout the Upper Rogue area. He will talk about angler safety and demonstrate how to tie three different flies, suggesting optimum equipment or alternatives.

In conjunction with the fly fishing presentation, the library will display antique flies, rods, and other paraphernalia for fishing the Rogue River during the month of February. These items were loaned through the Southern Oregon Historical Society.
